Tunnel Update 6

The last pre-cast arch has been placed for Talladega Superspeedway’s new Turn 3 Oversized Vehicle Tunnel, the first development of the 2019 Transformation Infield Project. Crews have started sealing around each arch placement for protection and weatherproofing, while concrete walls are also going up for the infield entry and exit access. Oxford, AL’s Taylor Corporation, which is spearheading the tunnel construction effort, is right on schedule. Read More

Donnie Red Visit

At various times over the years, racing legends Donnie Allison (left) and Red Farmer (right) of the original famed Alabama Gang were on top of the world at Talladega Superspeedway with victories and trips to Gatorade Victory Lane. Well, Wednesday, they found themselves on top again, but this time in a boom lift, getting a bird’s eye view of the precast tunnel arches that were put into place as the roofline for the all-new Turn 3 Oversized Vehicle Tunnel, the first development of the 2019 Transformation Infield Project. Construction has begun for Talladega Superspeedway’s new Finish Line Premium RV area, located just past the start-finish line near the entrance to Turn 1. Fans have a bird’s-eye view to experience the thrill of the track’s wild checkered flag finishes from the comfort of their RV in this prime real estate area beginning this spring during the motorsports tripleheader weekend, April 26-28, featuring the GEICO 500. New Leads in Operations

Andy McWilliams (left), a staple of Talladega Superspeedway since 1996 who was named Vice President of Operations in November, is settling in nicely to his new role as preparations continue for the upcoming April tripleheader weekend featuring the GEICO 500. And, to kick off 2019 – Talladega Superspeedway’s 50th Anniversary - his team has been bolstered with the hiring of Jason Payne (right), a transplant from Homestead-Miami Speedway (FL), as the Director of Operations, the position previously held by McWilliams.
