UNITED UNDER THE ‘DEGA FLAG! NASCAR driver Daniel Suárez (third from left), who will be competing on the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway in a few weeks for the GEICO 500, visited the nearby Atlanta (GA) area and the Atlanta United Major League Soccer team Thursday. During the day, Suárez, who played soccer as a youngster, raced Big Wheels against some of the MLS champs, and also showcased his skill in a kicking contest aimed at the center of a Talladega Superspeedway tire attached to a goal. Jeffrey Earnhardt (far right) became the first NASCAR driver to make his way through Talladega Superspeedway’s new Oversized Vehicle Tunnel Tuesday via John Ray’s iconic Big Rig that is a tradition at the 2.66-mile venue during the National Anthem as a part of all pre-race activities. The tunnel, located on the north end of the track near Turn 3 which will open for fans during the track’s upcoming tripleheader weekend April 26-28, is the first development of the track’s Transformation Infield Project presented by Graybar, which will culminate this fall. Bill France Sr. (right) enlisted the assistance of Bill Moss of the Moss-Thornton Construction Company of Birmingham, AL, to help build Alabama International Motor Speedway – today known as Talladega Superspeedway.
