GreenpowerUSA and Talladega Superspeedway team up for end-of-season race
TALLADEGA, AL – GreenpowerUSA is pleased to announce a partnership with Talladega Superspeedway to conduct an inaugural F24 National Championship race on May 21, 2022. GreenpowerUSA has always awarded the National Championship based on points accumulated by individual teams during an entire season. This season, however, the Talladega event will determine the National Champions for each division. Teams will qualify to compete by attending three regular season races.
The iconic venue, known worldwide as the backdrop in the hit movie “Talladega Nights,” hosts the GEICO 500 NASCAR Cup Series race – part of its first of two major NASCAR weekends in 2022 – on Sunday, April 24. Talladega Superspeedway is the most competitive race track on the planet (record 88 lead changes in 188 laps in the NASCAR Cup Series), the highest-banked (33 degrees) and the longest (2.66 miles), as well as the most fun and fan-friendly. Three- and four-wide racing at 200 mph are a norm at Talladega Superspeedway, along with nail-biting, photo finishes.
The National Championship races will be held on the road course, which is on the interior of the infield. The road course, which was active from 1969 to 1983, hosted six IMSA GT Championship races during the 1970s. GreenpowerUSA anticipates being able to attract seventy teams with over 700 racers and more than 2,000 family members for the anticipated races. Talladega Superspeedway is an ideal location for a national championship race for many reasons. It is centrally located for the majority of active GreenpowerUSA teams. There are many hotels nearby to accommodate visiting teams. The road course is in very good shape with slight banking. The track has facilities for visitors to use, as well as abundant parking. The pit area is enormous, allowing for separate high school and middle school pits. Additionally, Talladega Superspeedway is arguably the most prestigious track in America. This event will become one of the top Greenpower events in the world. Students ending their Greenpower season at Talladega Superspeedway will be a memory that students will carry forever.
