Race to End COVID: Talladega

This Saturday, May 15 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM CT, fans can join the race to end COVID-19 by getting a FREE COVID-19 test and/or vaccine, and enjoy an exclusive opportunity to drive two laps around Talladega Superspeedway. 

To participate: 
  • Enter via the track's main entrance off of Speedway Blvd, then proceed through the Turn 4 Tunnel to the staging area. 
  • All participants will be asked to review educational material about COVID-19 vaccines and sign a consent form. 
  • Participants must be at least 19 years old with a valid driver's license, car registration in their name, and vehicle insurance. 
  • Particpants 16 to 18 years old with a valid driver's license must have a parent or legal guardian in the vehicle to sign a minor release form. 
  • All participants are required to remain in their personal vehicle at all times. 
  • No motorcycles, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles, etc. may be used for track rides. 
The event is sponsored by Talladega Superspeedway, the Alabama National Guard, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the CDC Foundation and the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH). 

Vaccination Details

No registration will be needed for vaccination. At the drive-through event, all participants will be asked to review educational material about COVID-19 vaccine and sign a consent form. Free COVID-19 vaccination is provided by the Alabama National Guard in partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health. Vaccine will be administered by members of the Alabama National Guard, with a public health nurse present. After receiving the vaccine, people will wait 15-minutes to be observed for any rare allergic reactions. Those vaccinated will return to receive their second dose at the speedway on Saturday, June 5 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT. 

Testing Registration

Free COVID-19 testing is provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Increasing Community Access to Testing (ICATT) program contractor eTrueNorth. Registration for testing is encouraged but not required. You can register at doineedacovid19test.com. 

FAQs

Do I have to pay to get tested or vaccinated?

No, this is a free event. COVID tests and vaccines are available at no cost. 

Which vaccine(s) will be available at this event? Will there be another event a few weeks later at Talladega Superspeedway to take a second shot if needed?

This event will offer the Pfizer vaccine. Second doses will be administered on Saturday, June 5 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT. Track laps will not be available for the second dose. 

Upon arrival, will I have to get out of my vehicle to get tested or vaccinated?

No, all persons must remain in their vehicles for the duration of the lap event and testing/vaccine. 

Do I need to pre-register or make an appointment to get tested or vaccinated at this event?

Pre-registration is not needed to be vaccinated. Simply drive-up!

Can I bring friends or family with me for this event?

Yes, but passengers must also agree to be tested and/or vaccinated if eligible. 

What are the guidelines for the laps around the track?

All track rides will be paced single file at highway speed by Talladega Superspeedway staff. No vehicles allowed on the top lane of the speedway. No Passing Allowed! 

No motorcycles, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles, etc. may be used for track rides. 

All vehicles must have a valid license plate and all drivers must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration. 

Drivers who are minors (Under 19 years of age) with valid driver’s license must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the lap event and execute the Minor Waiver form. 

All participants are required to remain in their personal vehicle at all times. 

Vehicles deemed unsafe by TSS Staff will not be allowed onto the racetrack for the track drive. 

Once you enter the TSS Infield through the North Tunnel (Turn 4 Tunnel), please proceed to the staging area. The road will be marked by signage and traffic cones. 

No public restrooms available for participants. 

How old do I have to be to drive on the track?

You must be at least nineteen years old with a valid driver’s license, car registration in your name and vehicle insurance. Sixteen to eighteen year olds with a valid driver’s license must have a parent or legal guardian in the vehicle to sign a minor release form. 

How fast will we be able to drive on the track?

All vehicles will remain behind a pace truck and will drive at highway speeds. 

Can I participate in this event on my motorcycle?

No, motorcycles are not permitted. 

Do I have to get tested or vaccinated in order to take the track laps?

Yes, for this event all drivers and their passengers, sixteen and over, must be vaccinated or tested.  

Can I make a monetary donation to take track laps only?

No, this is a vaccine and test event only. 

I’ve already been vaccinated. Can I show proof or make a monetary donation in order to take the track laps?

No, but you can be tested to take the track laps. 

If a second vaccine shot is needed, will I be able to take track laps at that future event, too?

The second Pfizer dose will be offered at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, June 5 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT, but there will not be track laps on that date. 

I can’t make this event. Is there another one planned in the near future?

This event on Saturday, May 15 (with second doses on Saturday, June 5) is the only one scheduled at this time. Should another event be scheduled, we will notify the public.
