NASCAR driver Daniel Suárez (third from left), who will be competing on the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway in a few weeks for the GEICO 500, visited the nearby Atlanta (GA) area and the Atlanta United Major League Soccer team Thursday. During the day, Suárez, who played soccer as a youngster, raced Big Wheels against some of the MLS champs, and also showcased his skill in a kicking contest aimed at the center of a Talladega Superspeedway tire attached to a goal. It was loads of fun as seen in this photo that features players’ (from left to right) Andrew Carleton, Julian Gressel, Suárez, Ezequiel Barco, Dion Pereira and Leandro González Pirez.

MENCS Playoff Field Set; Talladega’s Unpredictable 1000Bulbs.com 500 on the Horizon

In Monday’s regular-season finale for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS), Brad Keselowski captured his second straight MENCS triumph after winning the Brickyard 400. The 16-driver field is now set for the MENCS Playoffs, which will include a visit to Talladega Superspeedway for the second race (of three) in the Round of 12 on Oct. 14 for the 1000Bulbs.com 500.

The winner of Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway will take home the incredible Vulcan Trophy, introduced last fall as the track’s depiction of the Roman god of fire and forge from the famous cast-iron statue that overlooks nearby Birmingham. And now, the Vulcan’s hammer & anvil that he used to make weapons and armor for all the gods as part of Ancient Roman myth, will be featured on a new trophy - the Hammer & Anvil Trophy - that will be awarded to the winner of both the General Tire 200 race Friday and Sparks Energy 300 Saturday.
