Mike Wallace Looking Forward To The Aaron's 312

Mike Wallace, driver of the No.7 Toyota, knows a thing or two about tackling the steep turns of Talladega Superspeedway.  When the NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Talladega for the Aaron’s 312 on April 26th, Wallace will make his 31st start at NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track.  He recently shared his thoughts on racing at Talladega Superspeedway.

“Well Talladega is kind of like a Daytona, it has a lot of history to it,” Wallace said.  “The repaving of the track two years ago made it incredibly smooth, so it’s the ultimate track when it comes to speed.  We’re building a brand new car just for Talladega and it’s the fastest car we can build.

“The corners are so sweeping and so radiused (at Talladega), so much bigger than Daytona’s, that handling really is not as a big of a key there.  You go there with a fast car with a low-drag body and high horsepower.  At Daytona, you go with a handling car.  They are two totally different deals and you go with two totally different mindsets.”

Wallace knows what it takes to win at Talladega, having found victory in the 1995 ARCA RE/MAX Series race.  He looks forward to the challenge April 26th brings.  “I won an ARCA race there in the past and I like the place a lot.  It’s Talladega.  It’s got its own mystique, its own place in racing.  In my own situation, it’s a place I want to win again.”

Mike isn’t the only Wallace looking forward to the Aaron’s 312 however, his nephew Steve, driver of the No. 66 Chevrolet, is also excited about tackling the 2.66 mile tri-oval.  “Talladega is always fun, especially since they repaved it.  I love superspeedway racing,” the younger Wallace remarked.
