Officials from Chrysler LLC and Talladega Superspeedway announced today a multi-year agreement establishing Dodge as the official car and truck of the historic Alabama racetrack.  This move marks another page in the long and storied history between two legends in motorsports.

“Talladega Superspeedway is pleased to welcome Dodge as our official sponsor,” said track president Rick Humphrey.  “Dodge is responsible for several key milestones in Talladega’s history and we are excited to partner with them.”

“When you ask race fans to name their favorite tracks, Talladega Superspeedway is always mentioned,” said Mike Accavitti, Director, Dodge Brand, SRT and Motorsports Global Marketing.    “Dodge is proud to be the official car and truck at a track that is legendary for powerful racing at high speed.  With a mix of the bold, powerful Dodge lineup of cars and trucks, and the legendary track that was first to have a driver exceed 200 mph - it’s going to be a great partnership.”

Dodge’s history with the track began September 13, 1969 when Charlie Glotzbach set the pole for the first ever NASCAR Grand National (now NASCAR Sprint Cup Series) race at Talladega Superspeedway, with a speed of 199.466 mph in a Dodge Charger Daytona.  Richard Brickhouse, also driving a Dodge Charger Daytona, went on to win the race, earning the driver his first and only victory in NASCAR’s premier series.  Other notable Dodge drivers to find victory at Talladega include Richard Petty (Aug. 11, 1974) and Dave Marcis (Aug. 8, 1976).

Well-known for its ability to produce big speed, Talladega Superspeedway is also the site where Buddy Baker became the first driver to exceed a 200 mph lap around a closed course.  Driving a Dodge Charger Daytona on March 24, 1970, Baker circled the track at 200.447 mph.

Fan’s can see all their favorite NASCAR drivers’ approaching 200 mph when racing returns to NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track for the Aaron’s Dream Weekend, April 25-27. The Aaron’s Dream Weekend features NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and The Birmingham News Qualifying for the Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series on Friday, April 25, The Birmingham News Qualifying for the Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday, April 26 and the Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, April 27.
