Alabama Wildlife Federation Cook-Off Teams Ready For Competition At Talladega Superspeedway On Feb. 10


A new series of teams will compete at NASCAR's Most Competitive Track on Feb. 10 as Talladega Superspeedway serves as the site for the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) Wild Game Cook-Off & Silent Auction. The cook-off teams are among the top in the region and will prepare their best wild game dishes in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series garage. Competition will not only take place among the cook-off teams, but also among spectators bidding for valuable items that combine both wildlife and motorsports. The list continues to grow and currently includes:

  • A guided fishing trip for up to two persons with River Region Guide Service
  • A wagon ride quail hunt for four at Old Spring Hill Plantation with overnight accommodations in Barber County, Ala.
  • A one day spring gobbler hunt in Midway, Ala. provided by Fur and Feather Outfitters
  • Prints by Alabama artists Larry Chandler and Eddie Leroy, including assorted turkey prints and the winning prints from AWF's Alabama Flora & Fauna Art Show, as well as the following titles: Oak Hills White Tail and Sagebrush Buck by Leroy
  • A trip for six on an Argentina Dove Hunt
  • A ticket package to Martinsville Speedway A ticket package to Darlington Raceway

In addition, all ticket holders who attend the event will be eligible for spectacular door prizes, such as a Talladega Superspeedway Sunoco flag autographed by NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers, an autographed hat by Tony Stewart, a Talladega Superspeedway aerial panorama photograph, a Talladega Superspeedway and Sunmont Corporation hard hat autographed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and a quail hunting trip with Talladega Superspeedway President Grant Lynch.

The event will also allow ticket holders to purchase a ride around the newly-paved 2.66-mile tri-oval race track. As an additional fundraiser for the AWF, rides will be sold for $25 each to the first 150 cook-off ticket holders who purchase them in advance.

Gates for the event will open at 2 p.m. and the cook-off starts at 4:30 p.m. Spectators will be invited to sample the wild game dishes from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. when awards will be presented to the cook-off teams. The event is expected to conclude at 6:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the AWF, Alabama's oldest and largest non-profit conservation organization. The AWF was established in 1935 by sportsmen to promote the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians. Talladega Superspeedway will host its first races of the 2007 NASCAR season during the Aaron's Dream Weekend,

featuring the Aaron's 312 NASCAR Busch Series. Friday, April 27 will feature The Birmingham News Qualifying for the NASCAR Busch Series. Saturday, April 28 will feature The Birmingham News Qualifying for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and the Aaron's 312 NASCAR Busch Series race. Then on Sunday, April 29, NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers will compete in the Aaron's 499, which will be the ninth championship points race in the season.
