Cook teams are mobilizing and the auction list is growing for the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) Wild Game Cook-Off & Silent Auction at Talladega Superspeedway set for Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 in the track's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series garage. The event will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and will feature taste testing of savory wild game recipes, unique auction items combining the worlds of outdoors and motorsports, great door prizes and more!
In addition to delicious food and fellowship with outdoors enthusiasts, a major highlight of the day will be the chance to take a ride around the freshly-paved historic 2.66-mile tri-oval race track to raise additional funds for AWF. Rides around Talladega Superspeedway will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and will be sold for $25 each to the first 150 cook-off ticket holders who purchase them in advance.
This will be the second time Talladega Superspeedway has served as the site for the AWF Wild Game Cook-Off & Silent Auction.
"We all had such a great time last year, we knew we'd want to host the event again in 2007," said Talladega Superspeedway President Grant Lynch. "The cook-off teams set the bar pretty high with the food they brought last year, and I urge everyone to come out this year because I am sure they will try to outdo themselves."
The creative decorations and vast array of excellent food may have something to do with the atmosphere of cooking-off at NASCAR's most competitive track, or simply that regulars on the wild game cook-off circuit are known for pulling out all the stops. With that in mind, visitors are encouraged to arrive early in order to check out all of the displays and sample all of the delicious wild game dishes offered by scores of teams set up throughout the garage. The center aisle of the garage will again feature an array of spectacular and unique silent auction items, attractively displayed for browsing as guests sample the delicious food.
"What a breathtaking environment to have a wild game cook-off event, with all the cook teams lined up in the NEXTEL Cup Series garage with the race track as their backdrop," said AWF Wild Game Cook-Off Coordinator Jimmy Harris. "With this wonderful partnership, we can bring NASCAR enthusiasts and wildlife enthusiast together for a mutual cause and have a lot of fun in the process."
Cook-off judging is set for 3:30 p.m. and the event is expected to conclude by 6:30 p.m.
Tickets to attend the AWF Wild Game Cook-Off & Silent Auction are $40 per person, or $50 per couple when purchased prior to the event. To purchase tickets and to pre-order rides around the track, call Alabama Wildlife Federation at 1-800-822-9453.
All proceeds from the event will benefit AWF, the oldest and largest non-profit conservation organization in Alabama. The AWF was established by sportsmen in 1935 to promote the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians. The organization holds wild game cook-offs throughout the state, however this statewide event is its largest fundraiser each year.
