Much has been accomplished in Talladega Superspeedway's paving project this past week, with the 2-inch asphalt base completed in the turns, one lift of the level-up course of asphalt applied on the backstretch and preparation underway for the level-up course* of asphalt to be applied on the frontstretch and tri-oval. Workers are also applying finishing touches to new concrete pit stalls on pit road, which are two feet wider than the previous stalls. The portion of pit road soon to be paved has also been widened by 10 feet. The finished project will result in asphalt repaving of the entire track, skid pad and pit road, and will be completed by the track's fall UAW-Ford 500 event weekend, set for Oct. 6 - 8.
* The level-up course is a layer of material constructed directly on the existing pavement surface to eliminate irregularities before placing an overlay course. (Source: Texas Department of Transportation Glossary)
