Paving Progress Report, June 9

A Caterpillar D9 bulldozer supports the paver as it makes the highest pass in Turns Three and Four of Talladega Superspeedway, applying a stone cement treated base (CTB). A smaller D8 Caterpillar bulldozer follows behind, supporting a roller that compacts the material as it is applied. The CTB is the first layer of material being applied to the turns of the track as part of the track's much-anticipated repaving, its first in 26 years. A 2-inch asphalt base will be applied to the turns next. The finished project will result in asphalt repaving of the entire track, skid pad and pit road, and will be completed by the track's fall UAW-Ford 500 event weekend, set for Oct. 6 - 8.
